Self Portrait
This is a self portrait piece I started using Corel Painter Essentials 5 and a Wacom tablet. I wanted a piece with challenging levels of contrast to expand my skill in shading and realism however as I progressed with the work decided it would look far more interesting in a Pop Art kind of style. I usually don't draw things with bold colors and contouring shapes so this will be broadening my skills as well.
At first I used a reference photo to match colors realistically. After seeing how dark and muddy the shadows were I experimented with brighter colors and was much more content with the outcome.
The piece is not complete yet as I would like to add more detail in both the face and background to create a better flow in the piece.
This was the first time I used the Wacom tablet to draw a realistic person and am very satisfied with the results. I will certainly be putting more time into creating both realistic and creative figures.
